Feathers , Reflections and a Peaceful Kandy Morning..

Kandy Lake whispers stories of nature , and it's birds are the storytellers .Here are some of my favorite captures from peaceful moments spent around the lake. đŸŽĨ

1.  Cattle Egret.( Bubulcus ibis)

The Cattle Egret is a small white heron commonly seen near wetlands , grasslands and paddy fields in Sri Lanka. Known for it's close association with cattle, it often follows livestock to feed on insects stirred up by their movement. During breeding season , it displays beautiful buff-orange plums on its head , chest and back. Graceful and adaptable , the Cattle Egret adds charm to any natural scene.

2. Indian Pond Heron (Ardeola grayii)

The Indian Pond Heron is a small , stocky heron commonly found in wetlands , ponds and rice fields across Sri Lanka. It has a brown and white streaked body which provides excellent camouflage among reeds and grasses. When disturbed , it flashes bright white wings in flight. This bird feeds mainly on fish , insects and small amphibians.

    3. Juvenile Nankeen Night Heron

The Juvenile Nankeen Night Heron has mottled brown and white feathers , which help it blend into its surroundings. Unlike the smooth reddish -brown plumage of adults , juveniles have streaks and spot that provide camouflage in dense vegetation. This nocturnal bird is often found near wetlands and rivers , feeding on fish , insects and small amphibians.

  4. Little Egret (Egretta garzetta)

The Little Egret is a small , elegant white heron commonly found near water bodies such as lakes , rivers and marshes in Sri Lanka. It has slender black legs with yellow feet and a sharp black beak. Known for its graceful hunting style , it feeds on fish , insects and small aquatic creatures. During the breeding season , it displays delicate plumes on its head and back.
