The Sri Dalada Maligawa, or the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic in Kandy, Sri Lanka, is a site of profound spiritual and historical significance. Among its many architectural marvels, the "Ambarawa" holds a special place. More than just a simple entryway, the Ambarawa is a sacred tunnel-shaped hallway that prepares visitors for their encounter with the most venerated relic in the Buddhist world. Upon passing through the stone-carved "Makara Thorana" (Dragon Arch), visitors enter this unique chamber. The Ambarawa is approximately 29 feet and 8 inches long and 8 feet wide, creating an immersive, corridor-like experience. The name "Ambarawa" itself evokes a sense of being enclosed, a prelude to the inner sanctum of the temple.
